Hertfordshire Building Control (HBC) Managing Director Simon Heywood will be departing his role this week after 7 years of committed service, with an official handover to our new CEO on 16th August.
During his tenure that commenced in 2016, Simon has led HBC through a substantial period of growth despite the challenges of COVID-19 and the impact of Brexit.
Trevor Clements, Training and Development Principal says
“Setting up an effective joint building control service for the original seven district councils was a mammoth task. I must admit there were times when I was not optimistic about the outcome. For me, Simon Heywood’s appointment was the key factor that shaped the successful organisation that we know today. Despite being ‘an outsider’ he quickly grasped the challenges facing local authority services and introduced a strategy that maintained a ethical and professional approach whilst recognising that there were commercial opportunities that could reduce service costs to the councils. He also recognised a need for a structured training programme and internal career pathway to develop and retain new and existing Building Control Surveyors.
Simon has been an inspiring leader to the HBC staff and leaves the Hertfordshire Building Control service in great shape to continue providing a first-rate service to our communities.”
Jayne Hall Head of Quality and Compliance says
“We will be sorry to see Simon leave, he leaves behind an exceptional heritage. His unwavering entrepreneurial drive and determination to bring about new ways of working within Local Authority Building Control have been instrumental to HBC”
Simon’s departure sets the stage for our new CEO to capitalise on Simon’s accomplishments. With opportunities for continued expansion, our new CEO will possess the capability to introduce fresh ideas and steer HBC towards an exciting new phase.
