New teaching accommodation

HBC has been awarded the contract to provide the building control service for the construction of two new teaching accommodation buildings at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree, Hertfordshire. Construction began in January and is due to complete in April 2022.

The first two-story building will provide a new standalone Maths and Economics facility and departmental offices, built around a central corridor. Each classroom will be fitted with a ‘teaching wall’, incorporating an 84-inch screen, whiteboard, and storage space.

The English and Modern Foreign Languages building will consist of three storeys, incorporating classroom and office space, as well as a new reception area. A drama studio, seating up to 100 people will also be constructed in this same block!

In the images above you can see the progression of the CFA piled foundations, to support reinforced concrete frames.  Brick cladding will be used to the exteriors, along with aluminium windows and zinc clad pitched roofing.

The design of the new blocks at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School has taken into consideration the look of the existing school buildings for consistency. Corridors and internal doors will predominantly feature oak glazing and the corridor ceilings will be oak timber.
