A Truly Modern Extension
Here a modern extension is added in keeping with the original lodge. An open-plan main living space was created eliminating barriers such as walls and doors, creating a more social, family orientated living space. This in turn makes the most of the natural light provided by the glazed doors to the rear and roof lights over the dining area.
In order to overcome some of the heating problems associated with being open plan – triple glazing was used on the sliding folding doors with additional mineral wool insulation being provided to the roof space. The project has been constructed using high-quality long-lasting materials including increased insulation and triple glazing to achieve better than the required U values and to ensure that life-cycle costs were maximised. The use of the most recent technologies allows this building to be performing at its best.
The owners of Harlton Lodge have created an extension entirely in keeping and sympathetic to the original dwelling. The teamwork between the architects, builders, and building control made for a smooth project from start to finish, completing on time and to budget. The contractors on-site were pleasant to deal with and the site was kept tidy, making for a good working relationship with the owners. Any snagging issues were dealt with quickly.
Overall the project has exceeded customer expectations and has delivered a stunning extension to Harlton Lodge, which will be enjoyed for years to come.
